Node 001 [testing] Location: Point Defiance Park, Tacoma, Washington
Each node represents a physical access point into Unilalia, our domain. Access is obtained through scanning QR-coded vicinities throughout selected public spaces – each code redirects to a site-specific destination in cyberspace wherein curated media and information is embedded. This is like digital collaging: we are constructing a web of interlinked pages feeding back into each other via hyperlinking. We're fascinated by the concept of hypertext and have been aiming to weave its function into the ergonomics of our user experience of this form of augmented reality. This installation is about h̶i̶j̶a̶c̶k̶i̶n̶g̶ decolonizing public space and happens via 1) the rerouting of public signage and 2) the application of symbolic cuing throughout the general ambiance. In this way, it is related to the French technique of détournement (albeit topically) in aesthetic and principle.
The above models are currently being developed for field testing.
